Name of fiction work? And were there other names you considered that you would like to share with us?
The name of my book is Protect. It is the first in my Gibson Guardians series. I knew that I wanted the title to represent the commitment of the Guardians to their clan and town. Protect was the perfect description.

What is the date you began writing this piece of fiction and the date when you completely finished the piece of fiction?
I actually started writing this story a few years ago. Life got hectic, so I set it aside, but the characters never stopped talking. When the pandemic hit, I got laid off from my job of thirty years. I suddenly had a lot of time and decided now was my chance to write.

Where did you do most of your writing for this fiction work?  And please describe in detail.  And can you please include a photo?I have a home office that is right off of our living room and I always write in there. We call it my writing cave. I have beach pictures hanging on all of the walls, because the beach is my happy place. I also have a lot of crystals sitting on my desk, including crystal bears and wolves that I have collected.

What were your writing habits while writing this work- did you drink something as you wrote, listen to music, write in pen and paper, directly on laptop; specific time of day? I have a couple of habits when writing. Music is a large inspiration for me. Once I get the story idea worked out in my head then I open up Spotify and start searching for songs that I associate with my characters and make a playlist. I listen to it every day before I start writing. My other habit is I always burn a wax tart that is pine scented. It helps set the mood for writing since my main characters are shifters. I wrote Protect on my desktop computer but I always carry a notebook with me for ideas. My second book I’m writing on my laptop because we will be moving soon and temporarily living the RV life.

Please include just one excerpt and include page numbers as reference.  This one excerpt can be as short or as long as you prefer. (Quote from Protect paperback page 105)

Albert bellowed and threw a ball of green energy straight at Tori. She threw up her hands and snuffed out the glowing orb. “Surprised, father?” Albert kept throwing more power at her, and Tori absorbed it all until her hands were glowing. “You have no idea what you created within me. I hope you are proud because the monster you created will be your demise.”

Why is this excerpt so emotional for you as a writer to write?  And can you describe your own emotional experience of writing this specific excerpt? This was the point where Tori stood up to her father after all the things he had done to her. She accepted what she was and embraced it. By the end of the scene I was cheering her on.
